“Jujutsu Kaisen” Things you need to know before watching this anime.

1) Jujutsu Kaisen Manga:

Given how quickly Jujutsu Kaisen has taken over the anime world, it may come as a surprise that the manga took so long to find its way. First published in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen has managed to sell 600,000 copies which is good if not amazing at best.

But as the months went by, something happened with the readers, sales continued to increase to 400% within a year. In October 2020, the latest volume (Volume 13) and reprints of previous editions sold a record of 10 million worldwide copies, in both print and digital sales. The anime’s great reception helped boost sales even more. By industry standards, these numbers are unprecedented for a first major mangaka and a title that is currently two years old at most.

2) The Inspiration from “Hunter x Hunter”:

Speaking of Togashi (Hunter x Hunter mangaka), Akutami (Jujutsu Mangaka) credits Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho mangaka as his main inspiration. Akutami has always been fascinated by Togashi’s storytelling techniques, from his formations to the way he works tricks and how he expertly recreates past events through flashbacks.

Furthermore, Jujutsu Kaisen’s magical system based on cursed energy and how sorcerers use it as a weapon. The amount of energy a sorcerer uses or summons depends on his feelings or lack thereof, making battles more emotional than expected. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Akutami based the power scale on the famous scales before him

The main effect stems from Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter X Hunter, where strength levels are determined by the character’s use of nin (mainly life energy).

3) Good and evil in Jujustu Kaisen:

The moral between “good and evil”, when Akutami was asked about his message, he said that there are no clean heroes and villains, in his words, humanity can be a “disaster” so when a villain wants to kill humanity based on their morals and common sense, some readers inevitably stand with them.
This is not to say that Akutami is a total human hater as much as he believes in people’s ability to be both good and bad, if no one is right or wrong, then no one knows the ultimate moral truth, which means everyone has to find it in their own way.
